UVHS believes that humane education is a key part of helping others compassionately connect with animals. We frequently coordinate group tours, classroom presentations, and job shadowing experiences for our community.
We work to help the youth in our communities foster a sense of respect and kindness for all living creatures. We build on their natural curiosity and love of animals to teach them about the humane care and treatment of animals.
We offer a range of programs for youth of all ages including group tours, classroom presentations, job shadowing, internships, and our new summer camp, Unleashed Adventures.
Beginning in 2016, UVHS is offering a summer camp for ages 9-13.
Unleashed Adventures is an animal-themed week-long program designed to foster respect, compassion and kindness towards all living beings. Camp is instructed by the Upper Valley Humane Society and hosted by Crossroads Academy in Lyme, NH.
Students, ages 9-13, will have hands-on experience caring for rabbits and guinea pigs on a daily basis, attend two off-site field trips to local animal care organizations and learn from the experts who care from these animals. Each day will focus on a unique animal theme and students will enjoy educational activities, animal encounters, games and crafts.
Three one-week sessions: July 11-15, July 18-22, July 25-29.

UVHS offers on-site tours of our facility. Tours typically include a guided walk through the shelter and resource center, a demonstration or hands on time with the animals, and handouts for the participants to take home with them.
To ensure the safety of participants and offer the best experience for everyone involved, our tours observe the following guidelines:
- Ages 5 and up are welcome in tour groups. Our tours are tailored to the ages of participants.
- The maximum size for tour groups is 15 people including chaperones. We require 1 chaperone for every 5 children.
- Please provide at least two weeks notice of the dates you would like a tour.
- Please be sure to alert UVHS of any animal allergies your group may have,
The staff at UVHS are available to visit educational institutions. We offer sessions including but not limited to dog bite safety, how to read animal behavior, career day presentations, volunteer recruitment presentations, “About UVHS”, or we can create something special for your classroom.
Job shadowing provides students an opportunity to experience a profession as well as identify the links between classroom learning and work requirements. A job shadowing experience at UVHS involves a student spending one to two days with a staff member in their area of interest to gain an understanding of the job.
Internships are available by application. They are ideal for college students who wish to enrich their education with on the job experience. Internships are unpaid professional growth opportunities in the areas of Animal Behavior and Training, Animal Care, Animal Medical Care, Nonprofit management, or Community Relations.
