Organization Background:
UVHS is a vibrant, innovative non-profit organization that improves the quality of life for companion animals in the Upper Valley. Located in Enfield, New Hampshire, UVHS has served people and municipalities in dozens of towns and four counties since 1959. For more than 5 years, UVHS has maintained a live release rate of 93% or better.

UVHS is at the forefront of a growing movement in animal welfare focused on serving our communities through care and resources for companion animals and their families. UVHS provides programs and services that reduce suffering, support wellness, and foster compassion. In addition to a busy adoption center, UVHS offers many programs to help keep pets in their homes and out of the shelter, including a pet food pantry, a mobile pantry program to serve pets in remote areas of New Hampshire and Vermont, emergency boarding for the pets of people in crises, reduced-cost spay/neuter for the community, and low-cost rabies vaccination clinics.

Fundraising is UVHS’ primary source of revenue. 90% of our revenue is donated by members of our community. Just 10% of revenue is from adoptions and other fees for services.

Vision & Mission:
At UVHS, we envision a community in which all pets are loved. We work toward this by carrying out our three-part mission:

To provide the Upper Valley with a compassionate, innovative animal shelter and companion animal resource center.
To enhance quality of life for animals through services that reduce suffering, support wellness, and foster compassion.
To promote the wellbeing of our employees and their development as animal welfare professionals.

UVHS strives to be inclusive of everyone from all walks of life and all human experiences in all areas of our organization. UVHS welcomes everyone, recognizes each person’s inherent worth, values each individual’s unique experiences, encourages a sense of belonging, and honors the full array of humanity and human expression.
