The Micah Fund

At the heart of our work is The Micah Fund, for helping animals to heal.
This fund, named for a UVHS alum, was started by Micah’s beloved adopter.
Our medical program is kept alive through your generous contributions.

Overview & Purpose

The Micah Fund at UVHS helps to provide a loving sanctuary and healing for animals who have experienced abuse, neglect, injury, or other trauma. This fund ensures that the most vulnerable animals receive the essential care, specialized attention and nurturing they require to heal and thrive. Through your generous donations, the Micah Fund empowers UVHS to extend a helping hand to these animals, offering them another chance for a better life.

The Need

Every year, UVHS helps hundreds of animals recover from cruelty, neglect, and/or injury. Most of the animals who come to UVHS from these situations face longer stays with us at the shelter and require infinitely greater investment of resources.

These animals almost always need extra time to recover after trauma and many of them need extensive intervention. Sometimes their needs are as simple as a surgery to repair a crushed limb or to remove an uncomfortable tumor. Other times, their healing requires complex care from multiple providers and experts. Always, they need time for their emotional and physical wounds to heal.

Your support for the Micah Fund ensures UVHS has the critical resources to mend broken bones and heal hurting hearts.

Micah’s Story

Micah, a young dog weighing in at only 5 pounds, came to UVHS in June 2019 after living in a home with physical violence. He was relegated to a crate in the basement. That was no place for a lively little guy like Micah!

Upon arriving at UVHS, Micah was shy, shut down, wary of reaching hands, and a bit of a nipper. After spending a week in a staff member’s quiet office, his behavior was more relaxed and predictable, and he was soon medically cleared for adoption.

Micah was soon adopted by a lovely woman from right here in Enfield! She had decades of experience with his breed. And, truth be told, she had a paw-shaped hole in her heart from the recent passing of a much loved Yorkie.

Micah now lives the best possible life. He found the perfect home, and his new person loves him fiercely. She cooks for him, provides him with the best medical care, and ensures he has lots of time with her in the flower gardens. They enjoy snuggling on the porch that looks out to a serene backyard filled with trees, birds, and butterflies.

Every year, UVHS spends over $70,000 to provide medical care for cats and dogs like Micah, and so many others who need sanctuary and healing. Your donation will directly help animals who have been abused, neglected, injured, or otherwise traumatized. They need your help.
