Dog Foster Families Needed!
UVHS is in search of some truly special people in our community! Are you able to open up your home to a behavioral special needs dog? Rest assured, this is not a “one size fits all” request! While experienced, pet-free, adult homes with fenced yards are the unicorns of foster needs, there are many other households that could be just the ticket for one of our needy pups.
Here are some of our most common needs that potential homes can accommodate:
- Fearful dogs that need a quiet place to decompress and make positive associations with things they are nervous about.
- Dogs that intensely jump up and/or grab with their mouths when they become over excited or stressed.
- Dogs that may show some reactive behaviors (barking/lunging) towards unfamiliar people or dogs on a leash, in the kennel, or in the home.
- House-training help.
We have some great behavior resources to offer our foster family team to set everyone up for success! If you’re interested in learning more, we would love to answer any questions you may have about fostering! We know this is a big request – together we can make a difference in this underserved population of pups!
Please visit our volunteer page for the most up to date information on volunteering at UVHS. At the bottom of that page are more details on fostering as well as online applications. Thank you!
